YMCA Advanced Gym Instructor Course

 

There is no such thing as a 'one size fits all' exercise programme. The focus of this course is to give you the in-depth knowledge to develop bespoke, varied and effective exercise plans to meet your clients' specific goals.

 

Learn to…

  • Incorporate different resistance and cardiovascular training methods into an exercise programme
  • Identify and help your client overcome barriers to exercise
    Construct and implement long-term exercise programmes (periodisation)

Format

  • 10 days including assessment
  • A mixture of theory and practical

Prerequisites

YMCA Gym Instructor or equivalent

Assessment

  • Practical (plan, teach, evaluate during course)
    Case study and verbal assessment
  • Level 3 Exercise and Fitness Knowledge (taken during course)

Certification

  • YMCA Advanced Gym Instructor
  • CYQ Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Fitness Instructing Gym

YMCA Client Lifestyle and Fitness Assessment

If you are seeking to devise the best possible exercise programme with your client, the most important thing to do is evaluate their physical strengths and weaknesses.

This module will help you identify your clients' wants and needs and how these can be achieved through an effective exercise programme.


Learn to…

  • Perform a series of fitness tests with a client Analyse test data
  • Recognise physical and psychological barriers to exercise
  • Identify possible causes of stress
  • Recommend basic strategies for dealing with stress

YMCA Exercise Nutrition

It seems that every day we are bombarded with conflicting information about nutrition, obesity or new diets, making this a subject your clients are guaranteed to want to discuss.
This course covers the principles of healthy eating and weight management in relation to exercise, enabling you to offer nutritional advice in an exercise context.

Learn to…

  • Understand what is meant by, and the essential nutrients for, a ‘balanced diet’
  • Give nutritional guidelines for exercisers and clients seeking to lose weight
  • Evaluate and understand the diet industry, specific diets, and their impact upon weight management
  • Advise clients on the pros and cons of a variety of diets
  • Interpret food labels and evaluate claims made by food manufacturers

YMCA Business and Marketing for the Fitness Professional

To have a successful career as a personal trainer or freelance instructor, self-employed or not, requires more than just technical expertise.

You also need to be able to sell your skills to potential clients, as well as understand how to run a business competently and profitably.

This course will give you essential business know how and show you how to apture and retain clients.

YMCA Training in Different Environments

This course introduces a variety of training methods that allow you to take invigorating sessions away from the confines of the gym and into the home, office or the great outdoors! It will provide you with a range of options for clients with a low level of skill or fitness and who are intimidated by, or don't have access to, a gym.

Learn to…

  • Identify and demonstrate a range of exercises in different environments, both inside and outside
  • Use small equipment and different environmental structures such as trees, stairs or benches
  • Teach a variety of walking classes in different environments for groups and on a one to one basis
  • Understand the characteristics of the typical client group (i.e. general populations/apparently healthy individuals)
  • Structure appropriate walking sessions that include warm ups/cool downs, timings, intensities, environments and relevant exercises

Format

  • 3 days
  • A mixture of theory and practical

Prerequisites

  • YMCA Gym Instructor or Exercise to Music (Aerobics) or equivalent
  • Level 2 Exercise and Fitness Knowledge and Worksheets
  • Current CPR certificate
  • At least 30 hours of teaching experience (recommended)

YMCA Circuit Training

Circuit training continues to be a hugely popular class.

This module will show you how to plan classes using a range of equipment, body weight exercises and incorporates sports-specific and health-related approaches.

We will teach you how to deliver exhilarating and enjoyable circuit classes.

  • Identify and demonstrate a range of exercises and
    approaches to circuit training
